It is common practice for an adult to visit their physician every few years to get a physical. The visit is often for prevention or simply maintenance. The concept of a regular mental health checkup however is less established, perhaps because of the negatives stigma about mental illness. As a society we take our mental health for granted, but just like our bodies, it’s important to keep our brains fit. Taking periodic stock of our emotional well-being can help identify warning signs of common illnesses like depression or anxiety, and when detected these specific illnesses are highly treatable, especially when they are caught in their early stages. We need to educate ourselves and each other about what to look for and make ourselves aware of the importance of early detection and intervention. Share your stories and struggles to let others know that they are not alone. You can simply use #WhatsYourStory or comment below. In participation with @BringChange2Mind. by geo_antoinette
